  • Jesse's Turn To Get A Tooth Fairy Visit

I will just say that Jesse's first tooth's falling out was a lot less dramatic than someone else's experience.  These two people are just really different.  That's how it goes.  :)

    On to the pictures:

    "My tooth!"

"Did it just fall out or were you playing with it?"

    "I was playing with it."

    "Let's see."

    "Smile!"

"I gotta go look in the mirror!"

First of all the baby teeth to go.  He'll never look the same...  :)

This is a huge deal!  Thanks for sharing it with us!

  • Breaking Chicken News

We were told Viola and Rosie were New Hampshire Reds.  Alas, they are not.  They are Dark Cornish Hens

I will stop waiting for them to turn a light orange/red color!  Haha!  :)

Of course, I don't care what they are, as long as I know.  And it's good to know that they ARE heat and cold hardy.

And no, just because they are Cornish Hens does NOT mean we will be eating them!!  Never!  heart

In other news, the COOP is done!  Just needs to be painted.  Pictures coming!

  • Injury Turns Into Science

And I can't even call it a science "lesson," unless you consider that I was the one getting the lesson!

Phoebe had just decided to get her microscope out just for fun, and was looking for something to observe (other than the pre-prepared slides that come with the kit).  I came out of my room, only to kick the metal grate covering the return-air on the floor (someone had dropped something inside, and after lifting the grate to peer inside, did not make sure the grate was back all the way flat to the floor).

Sharp metal corner + edge of left foot = OUCH!  I said what most moms would as soon as I felt the contact:  "Who lifted this grate and did not put it back down!?!?"  (Like it matters, right?)

Only after Phoebe pointed to the dripping blood did I realize...  well, I was injured!  Phoebe promptly brought me tissues, N*eosporin, and a Hello Kitty band-aid.  As I mopped up blood and tried to stop the bleeding, Phoebe sighed, "I wish I could have a little of that blood to look at under my microscope."

So I did what most other homeschool moms would do at this point:  I told her to quickly get a slide and I tried to get my little science nut a few drops:

Jesse began to read A Drop Of Blood (except ours is the original version with the little boy and the dog on the front!)

And Phoebe got to see my red and white blood cells:

Before all this ballyhoo, I tried to get a few pictures of a "normal" school day:

But I guess stuff like turning bloody messes into science is normal for homeschool, anyway!  :)

    There's always time for this:

  • One Month Later...

Sheesh!  It's been a month since I've posted.  Well, here are some pics of the kids for my cousin Anthony!  :)  Now Phoebe is 8 years and one month, and Jesse is 6 years and one month.

There they are!  You may notice that Jesse is NOT wearing glasses and Phoebe IS.  Well, Jesse needs them for up close work, but not while he's "out and about."  Phoebe needs them to be "out and about," but not for school work.  They are opposites in most ways!

    Chicken Update:

The girls are 9 and 10 weeks old now, spending the days outdoors in a large cage and spending the night inside their tub in the basement.  We have to supervise them a few times a day when we let them out of the cage, because there's a chicken hawk that flies around here.  shocked  Hopefully by next week we'll have our chicken coop with a covered pen built.  Then they will be staying outside 24 hrs a day.  Big girls!

It is very relaxing to sit in the shade, petting the chicken on your lap (as long as she's ok with it).  :)  I don't have pictures of that because I'm too busy relaxing.  But here are pictures of them running around.  You have to see the difference that 9 weeks makes!

Idabel at one week and at 10 weeks:

Rosie and Viola at one day old and 9 weeks old:

Same bird, same hands.  Difference of 9 weeks.  Wow!  :)

Eric keeps shaking his head and saying, "Chickens."  It's so funny to think that we have chickens! But they are so sweet and fun.  They really put a smile on your face.  heart  And hopefully soon we will not be paying for eggs anymore!  laughing
