And I can't even call it a science "lesson," unless you consider that I was the one getting the lesson!
Phoebe had just decided to get her microscope out just for fun, and was looking for something to observe (other than the pre-prepared slides that come with the kit). I came out of my room, only to kick the metal grate covering the return-air on the floor (someone had dropped something inside, and after lifting the grate to peer inside, did not make sure the grate was back all the way flat to the floor).
Sharp metal corner + edge of left foot = OUCH! I said what most moms would as soon as I felt the contact: "Who lifted this grate and did not put it back down!?!?" (Like it matters, right?)
Only after Phoebe pointed to the dripping blood did I realize... well, I was injured! Phoebe promptly brought me tissues, N*eosporin, and a Hello Kitty band-aid. As I mopped up blood and tried to stop the bleeding, Phoebe sighed, "I wish I could have a little of that blood to look at under my microscope."
So I did what most other homeschool moms would do at this point: I told her to quickly get a slide and I tried to get my little science nut a few drops:

Jesse began to read A Drop Of Blood (except ours is the original version with the little boy and the dog on the front!)

And Phoebe got to see my red and white blood cells:

Before all this ballyhoo, I tried to get a few pictures of a "normal" school day:

But I guess stuff like turning bloody messes into science is normal for homeschool, anyway! :)
There's always time for this:
